Week 15 -- January 13, 2020
A Lot of Contacting
Hola everyone!!! How are ya all????
It was a great week, full of miracles every day here in BEAUTIFUL Spain!!!! Also it's freezing cold now, I thought it was cold when I first got here, yeah I was wrong, this is freezing cold
This was definitely a very different week than some of the other weeks here. I got a new companion this week because of some emergency transfers as a result of some VISA problems with some Elders. His name Is Elder Rappleyea (pronounced Rapley) He is from North Carolina, which all the people here when he tells them that, they all ask him if he knew Michael Jordan was born there
He's super tall, has about 9 months in the mission, speaks really good Spanish, and loves being obedient and working hard, we are getting along great!!!
I think Elder Rappleyea brought some good and bad luck here to San Sebastián. The bad luck is that since he has been here, almost all of our appointments with people have fallen through. The good luck is that when we contact, we have a lot of success. For example, a few days ago, we had appointments fall through and contacted for 2 hours and got 5 new numbers and gave our number to like 20 people!!! And on Saturday, we had a big mission-wide contacting day. We legit contacted for 5.5 hours straight, (freezing cold) and had some luck but almost nothing literally until the last 20 minutes where we got 3 new numbers of people who were all like crazy interested in what we had to say, so like thanks God, I grew a lot of patience and it was so worth it!!! Kind of reminds me of the talk by Elder Uctdorf, "4th floor, last door." We also contacted another day for like 2 hours, and got 5 new numbers and gave our number to like 20 people! Elder Rappleyea is a BEAST!
Today, for Preparation Day, we went on this beautiful walk up a mountain which has a huge statue of Christ on the top, it was really beautiful and a ton of fun!!!
I have been thinking a lot this week about "Every member a missionary " and what that means. Especially because it's a new year, we are really pushing for every member in our ward to do the missionary work!!! My grandpa sent me a quote that I really liked and it related perfectly to what we've been pushing in our ward,
"There is neither man nor woman in this Church who is not on a mission. That mission will last as long as they live, and it is to do good, to promote righteousness, to teach the principles of truth, and to prevail upon themselves and and everybody around them to live those principles that they may obtain eternal life." Brigham Young
It goes really well with a verse I found interesting this week when studying the Book of Mormon, Jacob 1:19, read it, its powerful and tells us just how important our role here is. I know that every single member of the church has so much more potential than they realise. Everyone, if you've been baptized, you literally have the promise of the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost, a literal member of the Godhead! That is so insanely important! My invitation this week is a little more direct and bold than usual, and that's only because I need you all to understand just how urgent and important it is to share God's love. Please please please do everything you can to be a missionary! You don't need to have the black nametag, if you have a testimony, I plead for you, please share it. Think about how much is wasted if the only people sharing the gospel are the few missionaries there are compared to the large amount of members. You may feel like you can't have a significant impact, or that that one person you have in mind doesn't want it, but please just follow the spirit, be an example of Christ, and show God you're grateful to be blessed to be a member of His church by inviting all to come unto Him.
I love you all! You are all amazing and the best! I hope you have a great week!!!
